Subject Applied Design (ARAD) 4314 Section 01 (CRN: 12468)
Prerequisite: ARAD 4310 and 4311. An advanced course in furniture design and construction that will introduce nonÂwood materials associated with furniture making. Examples are: metal, fiberglass, mold-making and casting non-metals such as concrete, plaster and plastics as well as other alternative and experimental materials. Students will design and construct several furniture pieces by developing working drawings and a scale model; practice appropriate material selection; and employ complex and appropriate joinery and finishing. The pieces will utilize one or several of the techniques and materials covered in the course. Experimentation and material research is expected. (3 credit hours).
ARAD4314 Alternative Furniture Media will meet MW, 1:40pm-4:20pm, in room 233 in the Art + Design Building.
