Representative writings of British authors from I603 to 1789. Three credit hours.
This class will survey 17th and 18th century British literature, from Shakespeare to the metaphysical poets, to Milton and the scandalous Earl of Rochester, to the birth of the novel, and the period of very strange poetry (recluses, frauds, religious maniacs) between the time of Alexander Pope and William Wordsworth.
