Mental Health Nursing2018 First 7 Weeks

Subject Nursing (NURS) 1420 Section 81 (CRN: 12452)

Prerequisites: NURS 1205 and NURS 1505 or NURS 1415 and BIOL 1412 or BIOL 1433. Builds on NURS 1505 or NURS 1415. Builds on NURS 1505 with a focus on mental health/illness across the lifespan and communication with patients,families, and the health care team, including principles of conflict management. Exemplars include psychosocialassessment in acute and chronic mental illness, symptom management, and patient advocacy. Students continue todevelop nursing knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the competencies of safety, quality improvement, and informatics throngh learning experiences in the classroom, acute care/community mental health facilities. Traditional option: One- half semester; Transition option: Summer term. Four credit hours (2 credits theory; 2 credits lab).
Examination times may vary from lecture time frames. This course includes simulation laboratory experiences that are scheduled on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
