Prerequisites: SYEN 2315, MATH 3322, PHYS 2322. Analysis of electrostatic, magneto-static, and dynamic fields using vector analysis. Coulombs law, electric field intensity, electric flux density, Guass' law. Energy and potential. Conductors, dielectrics, and capacitance. Poisson's and Laplace's equations. The steady magnetic field. Magnetic forces, materials and inductance. Time-varying fields and Maxwell equations. Boundary conditions. The uniform plane wave. Plane waves at boundaries and in dispersive media. Transmission lines and antenna fundamentals. Examples are taken from the field of wireless communications. Three hours lecture.
