The crisis of the Old Regime; the contributions of Jansenism, the Enlightenment, constitutionalism, and the politics of gender to the formation of a revolutionary ideology; the course of revolution during the last decade of the eighteenth century. Emphasis on France, but some attention to Britain, Germany, Italy, and America. Three credit hours.
